We keep the numbers of livestock in balance with the acreage we have. This approach ensures plenty of summer grazing as well as being able to make all the winter feed needed, promoting good animal health and sustainability. The animals are an essential element for a balanced farm organism and for building soil fertility. Each domestic animal species has its own characteristics and contributes to the health of the farm and the shaping of the landscape.
Our particular emphasis is on cattle and we keep a small herd of pedigree Shetland cows and their offspring. We are keen to see native breeds thriving - they represent living cultural history, but also have an increasingly important role to play in future.
